SUMMARY:On-Farm IPM Workshops: Qualicum
DESCRIPTION:On-Farm IPM Workshops: Qualicum\nWhat: \nLearn monitoring and management techniques for pests of fruit\, vegetable\, and berry crops. \nInterested in improving pest management on your farm? This workshop will provide you with the knowledge to identify\, monitor and manage insect pests\, as well as recognize and attract beneficial insects. \nWe will start with learning some monitoring principals\, and then will take a farm tour\, looking at some different monitoring traps in action\, and trying out some monitoring techniques. We will have a look at the pests that are currently active\, and discuss management strategies that incorporate our monitoring results. We will also look for beneficial insects\, and the features that attract them to a crop. \nYou will leave with a better understanding of how monitoring can fit into your farm practices\, samples of some insect pests\, and a resource list to help you continue to build an IPM strategy for your farm. \nThis workshop is open to both large and small scale farmers\, and will focus on pests of berries\, brassicas and carrots. Provided information will be applicable to organic and conventional growers. Please register so we know how many participants to expect. \nWhen & Where: \nCowichan: Tatlo Road Farm | June 15th 10 -11:30AM\nSaanich: Northstar Organics | June 14th 10 -11:30AM\nQualicum: Fierce Love Farm | June 13th 9:30 -11AM \n\n\nTo register visit: Vancouver Island Pests Pollinators and Beneficials Events | Eventbrite

SUMMARY:Agricultural water management in a changing climate
DESCRIPTION:What\nThis free webinar will highlight projects in Delta and Kootenay & Boundary regions that are implementing proactive strategies for increasing agricultural water resilience. Changing precipitation patterns and average temperatures are resulting in hotter and drier summers\, increasing the water needed for healthy crops and livestock while reducing the available water supply. \nThis session is the last in a four-part series by CAI discussing ways climate change is impacting BC farmers and ranchers and sharing resources and research that enable adaptation. \nPresentations will include: \n\nStrategies for improving water conservation on farms — lessons from the Kootenay & Boundary region: Andrew Bennett\, Living Lands Agroecology\nModelling\, monitoring and sharing salinity data for agricultural water management in Delta: Leisa Yee\, Delta Farmers’ Institute\, and Andrew Nadler\, Peak HydroMetSolutions\n\nWhen & where\n\nTuesday\, November 9\, 2021\n10-11 a.m. Pacific Time\nOnline via Zoom — a link will be shared after registration\n\nThe webinar will be recorded and posted to the CAI YouTube channel after the entire series has wrapped up.
